The Accounts Receivable Aging Summary Report - Improve the Readability

One small click can help you improve the readability of the A/R Aging Summary Report in QuickBooks.

When you first view this report by clicking Reports > Customers and Receivables > A/R Aging Summary (1st report in the list), the report you see looks like this:

AR Aging - Original

Now, click the "Collapse" button located in the upper part of the A/R Aging Summary Report. You now get the same report, but with a much better view, that looks like this:

AR Aging - Collapse

Notice how the "collapse" button made the report much easier to read?

One last tool within this report to use is the sort option, which would allow you to put the results in numeric order from lowest to highest (or vice versa). Just click the Sort option at the top of the report to sort the report by Total, and it will then look like this (note that the total column has been resorted):

AR Aging - Sort

QuickBooks 2009 - Important Software Update and Online Banking Fixes

If you are using any version of QuickBooks 2009, make sure to get your software updated to the newest release as soon as possible.

Known as "Release 5" or "R5", this update to QuickBooks contains solutions to a number of problems and issues within QuickBooks software. In addition, there are a number of updates to the Online Banking feature within QuickBooks 2009 products. While these Online Banking updates don't take you back to the exact same level of functionality as found in older versions, they are definitely an improvement to those contained in the initial release (R1) of QuickBooks 2009. (for additional discussion of the Online Banking issues, please visit the Intuit Community Forum).

How do I know what release of QuickBooks 2009 I have?

While in any screen of QuickBooks, tap the F2 key on your keyboard and a product information window appears. Look at the very first line in the window that says "Product". At the end of this line, it will say "Release 5P" or similar. If it says that, you are up to date. For any release less than 5, you will need to update.

How do I get the update to QuickBooks 2009?

  • Click on Help > Update QuickBooks, and then click the "Update Now" button. Once the download is complete, close QuickBooks, then reopen it. You will be prompted to install the update. Once the update is completed, you will have the most current version.
  • You can also download the update from QuickBooks support - just select the version of QuickBooks 2009 you are using, then click the "Updates and Downloads" link at the top of the support page.
